How to use Ribbit Mobile

I signed up for ribbit on the premise that I wanted to be able to read my voicemail without paying extra to Vonage. Now I can't receive calls on the line as they're automatically forwarded to voice mail in one ring. Grrr... Anyone know how to fix this so that ribbit is triggered after 4 rings on Vonage and my mobile?

First setup your Ribbit account to accept calls from your mobile and Vonage phone.

Your mobile phones should ring first (3 or 4 rings) and then forward to Ribbit if you don't answer. If this isn't working correctly, double check the forwarding code you entered, http://bit.ly/8rJO9O.

If your Vonage phone is forwarding after just 1 ring, then you can follow the steps below to adjust the number of rings, see step 6 below.

To configure Vonage call forwarding:
1. Log on to your Vonage Online Account
2. Click on the "Features" link
3. In "Call Forwarding," select the line you want calls to be forwarded from
4. Click on the "Configure" button
5. Click on the "Basic Call Forwarding" link
6. Choose the number of seconds you want your Vonage phone to ring before it forwards the call
7. Enter the 10-digit phone number you want to forward calls to
8. Click on the "Enable" button

For more Vonage help, see http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=call_forwarding.

Hasan,
With Ribbit set up with your mobile phone, calls to your mobile will ring normally until your mobile carrier decides you're not going to answer. Then your mobile will send the call to Ribbit. For GSM phones (AT&T, tMobile), this will be four rings. For CDMA (Sprint, VZ), it is usually four rings, though we've found some variation from three to six depending on area.

From your note, however, it sounds like you may be using a Ribbit purpose number as a single number for all your phones, including your mobile. I'll assume you are using a Ribbit purpose number.

Ribbit has two options (look at the settings window under 'call routing' when logged in). You have a choice between two options; ring these phones while taking a message, and ring these phone before taking a message.

With the first option, your caller is given the option to leave a message while your other phones are still being rung by Ribbit. Perhaps that's what you are experiencing.

If you do not want Vonage voice mail or your mobile voice mail to pick up, then set answer security to 'any key' or '3 digit code' (settings, call routing, options} then both Vonage and your mobile voice mail will be foiled.

If you've also forwarded your mobile, then calls

Do send a note to support@ribbit.com if this doesn't clear things up!

Regards,
crick

Hi Hasan,

I have asked the Ribbit [client] Support team to get in touch with you to see why the service is not offering more rings before sending to voicemail. They will be in touch shortly.

In the future, you can reach them directly by sending an email to support [at] ribbit.com.

Sit tight...help is on the way. :)
